a little corkboard & a big dream

“Hi I’m Laura, and welcome to my crib. Here, across from the climbing wall, is my Inspiration Corner. Yeah, you know, I just come here to, you know, reflect on clothes that make me tingly and stuff.”
Why Inspiration Corner is More Than an Early Sign of Hoarding
1) I’m Compiling. I collect images of clothes that meet one criteria: they make me tingly and stuff. I always keep an eye out. Sometimes I can go for a week and encounter nothing, sometimes I need to add corkboard to the corner.
2) There is immersion; discussion. I made sure Inspiration lived in a high-traffic corner, so I’m constantly exposed and subconsciously ingesting. Kinda like asbestos. When friends come over, I get them talking. Inevitably, there’s a lot of pointing, debating and sharing that ensues. I love seeing different types of chicks react and gravitate to certain silhouettes, colors, statements. I take mental notes.
3) I draw. Yeah, that happens too. Constantly. I take ideas from the Corner and make them better. Note: 99% of images [and my life] is vintage.
4) I have plans. Next, I’m going to select ONE piece to be produced. I will wear it. I will talk about it. I will whore it out at social gatherings like a Jewish mother*.
5) And more plans. More pieces, more whoring. I think I’ll do a dress for each of my best girlfriends.
* Per the stereotype! In reality, the many Jewish mothers I know are actually 10-20% more chill than the average non-Jewish mother. Oy!
